Welcome,
When you really let it sink in that our cells are 75 to 90 percent water, it makes sense that soaking in a tub full of water that is just the right temperature is a perfect healing modality for our skin, whole body, and soul. A long, relaxing soak hydrates and cleanses us on a deep level. And that is just for starters. If we add in a few natural ingredients to aid the process of healing and cleansing, hydrotherapy can hardly be beat. Yet most people load their baths with toxic chemicals that claim to help the skin yet add more poisons to an already over-loaded body.
The most healing baths for your skin are ones that use natural materials and formulas like those painstakingly researched and compiled in my eBook Beauty and the
Take a look at your skin. What do you see? Is your skin dry? Oily? Aging? Do you have acne? Psoriasis? Cellulite?
I’m assuming that you observed at least one (if not more) of these traits in your own skin. After all, who wouldn’t? The point of this exercise was not to make you stressed or depressed about your skin – it was merely to assess what type of skin you have.
Not what kind of skin I have, or your neighbor has – skin care is all about your skin. The problem is, most skin care regimes are tailored to a mass audience – for “dry” skin, for “acne.” I have natural skin care routines that you can adapt specifically to your skin type.

Skin's pH Tip:
|
|
The pH of skin and hair ranges from 4.5 to 5.5, which is acidic, given that pH neutral is 7. One often hears about the skin’s “acid mantle.” What this means is that you’ll want to return your skin to an “acid” state after cleaning with alkaline ingredients such as soap, which is above a 7. Toning does the job. Sea salt: 7, a neutral pH. Baking soda: pH of 8.1, alkaline; mineral bicarbonate of soda, also known as soda ash. Epsom salts: pH of 6, acidic; magnesium sulfate. |
To introduce myself, I’m Annie B. Bond,
For the past thirty plus years, I have devoted myself to finding non-toxic alternatives to chemical products, and so have become an expert at creating formulas that are cheap and easy to make, and that work, from natural materials.

Skin's Layers Tip:
|
|
Understanding how the skin works is important for choosing the right ingredient to help you at the right time. Outer layer, the epidermis: Dead and dying cells. Needs: To be exfoliated and removed so as not to block the protective and lubricating benefits of the oils of the second layer. Second layer, dermis: This layer lubricates the outer layer, and contains sweat and oil glands. Needs: Cleansers that help remove waste and clogging of the glands. Third layer, subcutaneous, fatty layer: This layer determines the firmness of the skin. Needs: Hydration, lubrication and nourishment. |
And, I love baths: Oprah first inspired me to start taking baths rather than showers - I read that she takes a bath every night after her day’s work is done, and finds it profoundly restorative. Following her lead, I myself began to spend my evenings soaking in a steaming, natural, therapeutic bath each evening – and was forever changed. I’m a convert: I can’t even remember the last time I had a shower when there was a bathtub available to me!
I spent a year researching herbs for skincare for my do-it-yourself formula book Better Basics for the Home. I went to Green Nations conferences full of herbalist, and read all the old herbalist skincare books.
Since then, I have decoded ancient beauty secrets and have come up with over 40 completely natural recipes for making your own skin care baths with ingredients that best fit different needs. I can teach you which
best treat your skin type, and how to combine them to make your very own tailored skin care bath.

Skin Types Tip:
|
|
Dry: Lavender, chamomile, rose, calendula. Sensitive: Calendula, chamomile. Oily: Lavender, rose, witch hazel, lemon balm, rosemary, sage. |
The key to these baths is that they all come from time-tested folk recipes. Most commercial products have the right science behind them – but rather than sticking to the natural ingredients that have worked so well at treating skin for centuries, most store-bought products use synthetic materials and chemicals to try to create the same effect.
I have researched ancient formulas and studied commercial products to create these recipes for you: recipes that return to the use of solely pure, whole, natural ingredients. That’s what makes these baths so nourishing … and what makes them work.
